Buffalo Asylum Seeker Program Offers Statement on Supreme Court Decision
jerhico-news2

BUFFALO, NY (December 28, 2022) – Dr. Myron Glick, founder and CEO for Jericho Road in Buffalo, NY, offers the following statement on yesterday’s Supreme Court decision to maintain Title 42. Jericho Road’s Vive Shelter is the largest asylum seeker shelter in the United States offering refuge and support to asylum seekers from across the world. Please reach out if you would like to schedule an interview with Dr. Glick.

“The US Supreme Court made the decision to keep Title 42 in place. This means that US Customs and Border Protection will continue to turn away people at regular border crossings who are fleeing unimaginable hardships without allowing them the legal right of applying for asylum. The continued use of Title 42 is preventing U.S. immigration laws from being upheld, prolonging disorder at the border, and hurting the very people who need our help the most. With access to asylum blocked at official ports of entry, some asylum seekers see no choice but to endure extremely dangerous journeys to cross away from official border crossings to attempt to seek safety. This adds to the number of border encounters with law enforcement and the mounting death toll of people who have perished in the crossing. Far from keeping our country safer, Title 42 wastes resources and exacerbates an already dangerous situation for thousands of people.

At Vive, we continue to see much higher numbers of people seeking asylum. We have been at full capacity for months. The Supreme Court’s decision ensures that this will remain the case until at least the spring. But we stay the course and we continue to serve the people who entrust us with their safety. Let us all strive to love each other in deed and in truth.”
